Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 3 – German Ambassador to Cambodia Stefan Messerer affirmed German government’s continued support for Cambodia's growth and development.
German ambassador paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on 2 July 2024 at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, the ambassador recalled the bilateral relations between Cambodia and Germany, and during his diplomatic mission for more than two years, the diplomatic relations and cooperation between two nations have grown significantly.
The ambassador affirmed that the German Government will continue to support Cambodia’s growth and development in line with the Royal Government's Pentagonal Strategy Phase One.
In addition, Ambassador Stefan Messerer reaffirmed his commitment to further promote relations and cooperation in key sectors, including contributing to the development of Cambodia's economy by encouraging German investors to invest in Cambodia, promoting trade between the two countries and the contributing to the development of health and education through the provision of master's degree scholarships to Cambodian students to pursue their education in Germany.
German ambassador also informed Samdech Thipadei about the opening of the German Consulate in Siem Reap and thanked the Royal Government for its prompt response and support for the opening of the Consulate.
For his part, Premier Hun Manet underlined that the meeting with the ambassador was a good opportunity to discuss further strengthening and broaden relations and cooperation between the two countries. The premier also thanked the German government for its significant contribution to Cambodia's socioeconomic development in the past and praised the ambassador's commitment and vision to further strengthen and broaden cooperation between the two countries.
In addition, Samdech Thipadei welcomed the German government to establish a German Consulate in Siem Reap to facilitate people-to-people tie, boost tourism between the two countries and facilitate trade and investment.
Both sides also discussed cooperation in various fields such as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the conservation of ancient temples, especially Angkor Wat, and cooperation on demining in Cambodia.
