Kampong Cham (FN), Jul. 1 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to preventing the destruction of flooded forest land around the Tonle Sap Lake and addressing other natural resource crimes.
The premier spoke on Monday (Jul. 1) during the celebration of the 19th National Fish Day in Kampong Cham province.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "I call upon our local authorities, officials, and citizens to unite in preventing deforestation that could harm ecosystems and freshwater fish. Large-scale clearing and excessive use of chemical fertilisers not only deplete flooded forests but also contribute to water pollution, which harms fish populations."
Premier Hun Manet underlined the need to prioritise protection of the nation's common interests and ecosystems around the Tonle Sap Lake and fish spawning grounds. He advocated for ongoing tree replanting efforts and regular conservation measures.
Samdech Thipadei continued, "Do not underestimate the resolve of the new generation and the government's commitment. It is our duty to play a role in the state's affairs. Both young and old share the responsibility to safeguard and sustainably develop our nation."
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed that the government will continue to protect the Tonle Sap Lake and its role as a vital spawning habitat, ensuring ecosystem preservation for the benefit of the entire nation. He underscored the government's unwavering responsibility in this regard.
