Kampong Cham (FN), Jul. 1 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed the strong commitment of the seventh-mandate Royal Government to continue to launch policies that support farmers and investors in the agriculture sector.
The premier spoke on Monday (Jul. 1) during the celebration of the 19th National Fish Day in Kampong Cham province.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The first crucial factor is ensuring a market for products, and the second is the profit after deducting costs. The seventh-mandate Royal Government will build upon the previous government's efforts, setting out policies to support our farmers nationwide and attract other investments in our agricultural sector."
Agricultural land continues to be reduced and converted into housing, turning it into urban areas, and pushing for the industrial sector and tourism. Therefore, the Royal Government's policy is crucial in the construction of irrigation systems, reservoirs, physical infrastructure, and connecting roads for transporting electricity and other utilities.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government's strategy to support agricultural industries including rice, rubber, and cashew has been effective. Attracting foreign investors to use Cambodian raw materials has also significantly benefited farmers.
In terms of aquaculture, Samdech Thipadei urged to promote the development of both freshwater and marine aquaculture. This includes researching breeding techniques for rare and endangered species to ensure conservation and efficient breeding practices that boost the economy, improve aquatic life, and reduce pressure on natural fisheries resources.
Prime Minister Hun Manet recommended enhancing quality control, safety, processing capacity, and developing fishery value chains to strengthen the competitiveness of Cambodian fishery products in both domestic and international markets. He called on development partners and the private sector to provide more support through technology, capital, and low-interest financing to promote aquaculture and fishery product processing in Cambodia.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also instructed the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, to focus on reducing the impact of climate change to ensure the sustainable development of the agriculture sector.
