Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 28 – Cambodian Musician Kong Nay passed away on Friday (Jun. 28) due to illness at the age of 80.
Kong Samay, the son of Kong Nay, told Fresh News earlier that Kong Nay had died at his home in Doung village, Svay Tong commune, Kampong Trach district, Kampot province at 12:40pm, 28 June 2024.
Kong Nay was a renowned Cambodian long chapei artist, known as Elder Kong Nay. He held the national title as a living legacy and had won numerous national and international awards.
Always seen wearing black glasses, he was well-known for his mastery of playing the traditional long-necked fretted plucked lute called chapei dang veng.
The news of his passing is a great loss to the country, as he was not only a valuable human resource but also an important living legacy. The Cambodian people are deeply saddened by this loss.
