Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 28 – Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), unveiled that extremist groups are initiating the formation of a government-in-exile abroad to oppose the legitimate government, destroying the peace and security of the Cambodian people.
Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Jun. 28) on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), held at the CPP’s headquarters.
To safeguard the peace and the people, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called for collective action by the people and the Royal Government to eradicate political parties associated with or linked to this illegal government, especially to impose severe penalties on these extremist groups.
On that occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen pointed out that in France, French President Macron recently warned that if the far right or far left were to win the upcoming general election, it could lead to the possibility of civil conflict. Drawing a parallel, he cautioned that Cambodia could face similar challenges if extremist groups persist, potentially causing further turmoil and suffering for the people.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen, also Cambodian Senate President, underlined that Cambodia cannot tolerate a government apparatus operating abroad with members active within the country. He called on the Royal Government to address this issue promptly, suggesting amendments to political party laws or other relevant legislation to impose severe penalties on extremist groups attempting to form a government-in-exile.
Highlighting the imperative to safeguard peace, Samdech Techo underscored the necessity of taking decisive actions to prevent extremism that threatens national security and stability.
