Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that despite global turmoil, the new Royal Government has maintained macroeconomic stability over the past 10 months. Follow-up measures will be established to address these issues.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun. 27) at the celebration of the first National Day of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME Day 2024), held at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.

During his speech, Samdech Thipadei underlined the need for private sector participation in the development of infrastructure systems. He stated that the state cannot work alone, and highlighted the role of the private sector in areas including health, infrastructure, and employment. He mentioned that the private sector can help absorb workers, establish schools in provinces to provide education, and set up private clinics to complement public healthcare.

"For state infrastructure, we have some national roads, but if we want to develop faster transportation systems such as highways, canals, and railways, the participation of the private sector is essential. Without their involvement, the process would be significantly delayed. Therefore, we should allow the private sector to contribute through mechanisms like Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) to expedite infrastructure development," Samdech Thipadei underscored.

Additionally, the premier further underlined that the private sector brings efficiency and effectiveness to these initiatives. He clarified that while the state is not incapable, it has numerous responsibilities and focuses on policy and support.

Samdech Thipadei also noted that empowering the private sector aligns with the principles of a free market economy as outlined in the Constitution of Cambodia.
