Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia must maintain stability to foster national economic development and alleviate concerns in the private sector.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun. 27) at the celebration of the first National Day of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME Day 2024), held at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that Cambodia has over 750,000 small and medium enterprises. He noted that, despite global turmoil, the new government has maintained macroeconomic stability over the past 10 months.

"What we need to address is the private sector's fear of instability, which affects both foreign and local investors," the premier underlined. "If you want to expand a business, a noodle shop for instance, you need to be confident that stability will be maintained. Therefore, a primary assurance from the Royal Government to the private sector is the protection of peace, security, and social stability at all costs. This is essential."

On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet acknowledged that the Cambodian economy has not fully recovered to its pre-COVID levels. However, the Royal Government has implemented a series of measures to address these issues. He encouraged and supported the private sector but reminded them not to assume that the government will always favour them.

Prime Minister Hun Manet also noted that an Australian institute has predicted Cambodia's economic outlook to be more positive than that of other countries in the region.
