Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed provincial governors to allocate lands for the construction of the Cambodian Veterans Association headquarters in provinces. He urged local philanthropists to continue supporting the Veterans Association.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jun. 26) on the occasion of the celebration of the 17th Cambodian Veterans Day.
Kun Kim, Vice President and Secretary General of the Cambodian Veterans Association, reported ongoing assistance and construction of association headquarters in various provinces including Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, Tbong Khmum, Kampong Thom, Svay Rieng, Kampong Speu, and Kampot. However, 12 other provinces still require land for office construction and support. Senior Minister Kun Kim expressed hope that provincial governors and philanthropists will sustain their support for this initiative.
"Capitals and provinces should allocate land to the Veterans Association for their headquarters. There are only 12 provinces remaining. This headquarters is not for the personal use of Senior Minister Kun Kim, but serves as a service and communication office for veterans. Even veterans still in active service will benefit from these facilities," the premier responded to Kun Kim’s request.
Samdech Thipadei also directed provincial governors to engage local philanthropists in supporting the Veterans Association, recognizing the increasing number of veterans and their ongoing year-round needs.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the ongoing importance of constructing houses for veterans, stressing the inclusion of toilets in these developments. Providing housing and land to veterans remains a crucial policy priority. He underscored the need to prioritise building houses for the most-needy veterans. Additionally, the Royal Government is committed to expanding these efforts to enhance.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and his spouse Pich Chanmony announced their support for the construction of 50 houses for veterans and called on other philanthropists to support the construction of more houses for veterans.
