Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that Cambodian people must unite to preserve the hard-won peace, despite the challenges.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun. 20) on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of marching towards national salvation, held in Tbong Khmum province.

Premier Hun Manet underscored, "This underscores the immense value of peace. It is easy to destroy peace, but exceedingly difficult to build it. Therefore, we must unite to safeguard this hard-earned peace at all cost."

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added, "I would like to take this opportunity to honour the souls of our ancestors, warriors, women, children, and patriots of all generations who sacrificed their lives for our beloved motherland and its survival. Through their efforts, Cambodia has achieved significant milestones in maintaining peace, sovereignty, national unity, and development as we see today."

A clear understanding of history is crucial for each country and for fostering good relations between them. As leaders of our respective nations, Cambodia and Viet Nam, have often acknowledged, there exists a history of mutual assistance in achieving independence from colonial rule. Cambodian leaders and citizens supported Viet Nam in its struggle for national liberation, unification, and development.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei continued that the Vietnamese leaders and citizens reciprocated by aiding Cambodia in its fight against the genocidal regime of Khmer Rouge and in its subsequent development. This historical fact must be clearly understood by the people of both countries to prevent misinterpretations lacking in real historical basis.
