Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 19 – Cambodian Delegate Minister Jean François Tan stated that Cambodia could achieve prosperity comparable to Singapore if peace, stability, and economic development were maintained.

The delegate minister spoke on Wednesday (Jun. 19) at a press conference discussing the outcomes of Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official visit to Singapore.

He underlined that Cambodia can learn from Singapore's strengths and consider how to implement them to foster economic growth.

Jean François Tan noted that since 1965, Singapore has never experienced war or political instability. He stressed that Cambodians should understand that peace and political stability are crucial for economic development.

"If Singapore had experienced the Second Indochina War, the genocidal regime, and the Third Indochina War as Cambodia did, it would have suffered the same devastation. Therefore, if we want to learn from Singapore, we must maintain peace, political stability, value social order, and strive to develop the country's economy," he underscored.

The Republic of Singapore was formally established on August 9, 1965, following its declaration of independence from the Federation of Malaysia. Since then, Singapore has enjoyed peace and political stability, particularly under the leadership of Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Singapore is known as the "Asian economic dragon."
