Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 17 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Phnom Penh Administration to consider establishing public bus lanes along the new suburban road network and satellite cities to give priority to public transport.
The premier spoke on Monday morning (Jun. 17) during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Twin Flyovers at the Intersection of Samdech Techo Hun Sen Boulevard and National Road No.2.
On that occasion, Premier Hun Manet underlined that with the development of the Cambodian economy, the city will become more developed, people will live and do business more actively, and there will be increased travel on the roads. For the construction of each road, the Phnom Penh Administration must consider all aspects in advance, especially the preparation of public bus lanes along the new suburban or satellite city road network.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The construction of new roads in Phnom Penh, including those in the suburbs or satellite cities, must take public transport into account in advance, especially preparing routes for buses. Public transport must have priority over private travel."
Samdech Thipadei underlined the importance of future population growth and road usage. He highlighted that the twin flyovers under construction will play a crucial role in connecting Phnom Penh with Takhmao city, the southern suburbs, and Techo International Airport, which will accommodate tens of thousands of daily visitors.
On the occasion, the premier added that suburban development needs to consider the connection of the road network, and the construction of new roads must account for increased travel over the next 15 to 20 years. It is essential to plan in advance for the number of lanes to accommodate future population growth.
Prime Minister Hun Manet continued that only by ensuring peace and stability can development in all areas be promoted. Regardless of how well roads are constructed, if the country is not peaceful, there will be no road travel.
