Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 13 – Cambodia and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province of South Korea announced to further strengthen and expand cooperation in tourism and other sectors.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Oh Young-hun, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on 12 June 2024 at the Peace Palace.
Oh Young-hun thanked Samdech Thipadei for allowing him and his delegation to pay a courtesy call on. He also briefed Samdech Thipadei on the main purpose of their visit to the kingdom, which was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the administration of Phnom Penh and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
Taking this occasion, the governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province also thanked the premier for supporting the signing of a MoU between the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province with Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in the past. In addition, he also met with the Ministry of Tourism to discuss the possibility of establishing direct flights from Jeju to Cambodia, and committed to finding support mechanisms and regulations to promote the direct flights.
Furthermore, Oh Young-hun highlighted the pursuit of investment opportunities in other sectors, including trade, agriculture, education and clean energy in the context of the strategic partnership between South Korea and Cambodia.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his pleasure to meet with the governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the delegation and congratulated on the achievement of the signing of another MoU between Phnom Penh and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, as part of contributing to the promotion of relations and cooperation between the two countries.
On the occasion, the premier recalled his previous meeting during his official visit to South Korea, where they discussed enhancing the connection between Jeju and Cambodia. The focus was on boosting tourism and promoting direct flights between Jeju and the Cambodian cities of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
Lastly, Samdech Thipadei also encouraged the governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province to continue cooperation with relevant ministries and institutions of Cambodia to explore opportunities for expanding investment in potential sectors in Cambodia.
