Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 10 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet underlined that while nobody is perfect, everyone must strive for self-improvement, recognise their shortcomings, and correct their mistakes responsibly.

The premier spoke on Monday morning (Jun. 10) at the closing of 2023 and opening of 2024 training courses of the Royal School of Administration in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipdei underlined, officials, like everyone else, should adhere to the five approaches for good governance articulated by Samdech Techo Hun Sen. While all five approaches of the Royal Government are essential, consistent implementation of the first four is crucial, as Samdech Thipdei wishes to see officials correct their mistakes before resorting to the fifth approach.

"No one is perfect, but we must strive for perfection. We need to adopt this mindset so that when we identify our shortcomings, we take responsibility and correct them," Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored.

Under the seventh-mandate Royal Government, this approach has been implemented through disciplinary actions, demotions, and dismissals.

The five approaches include:

1. Mirroring is recognising and self-criticising one's own flaws or allowing the public to critique them openly.

2 Bathing is maintaining purity in body, speech, and mind, dressing appropriately, speaking positively, and avoiding negative emotions such as jealousy, envy, anger, and malice.

3. Scrubbing is to eliminate bad habits and corrupt behaviours, fostering impartiality.

4. Treatment is to correct mistakes and setting an example by disciplining oneself and guiding others.

5. Surgery is removal, representing the last resort for addressing issues.
