Kampot (FN), Jun. 6 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated his directive for authorities in all provinces to continue to crack down on street gangs with unwavering determination and without exceptions.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun. 6) during an inauguration for the official use of Kampot multi-purpose port in Kampot province.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The situation is urgent, particularly concerning the threat posed by groups wielding samurai swords. I urge parents to be vigilant in protecting their children from potential harm or loss of life. Regulations must be enforced uniformly across all provinces without exception. Each mandate must be implemented fully and seamlessly, without any gaps or selective enforcement."

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet added that he had already petitioned the judiciary when authorities attempted to apprehend gang members and the judiciary lacked clear grounds for their release. Strict enforcement of the law is essential to bring unity and serve as a deterrent to street gangs.

Samdech Thipadei further continued that decisive action against street gangs must be carried out collectively and consistently. Each action taken must be firm and unwavering.

It should be noted that, in accordance with Samdech Thipadei's directives to implement strict measures against street gangs, it is reported that between 23 May and 2 June 2024, the Provincial Court and the Prosecutor's Office handled 73 cases involving street gangs, with a total of 478 suspects. The court successfully arrested 320 suspects, while 158 individuals managed to evade capture.
