Phnom Penh (FN), May 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet agreed to the request of Neak Oknha Mao Chamnan, President of the Khmer Artists Association, to provide preferential treatment to the works of the Khmer Artists Association.

The premier spoke on Friday (May 31) during the meeting with Cambodian Artists under the theme "Heirs" in Phnom Penh.

"The president of the association has requested a tax exemption for the production of cultural works by the Khmer Artists Association. [...] I agree in principle and will talk to the tax authorities to help in this work,” Samdech Thipadei underscored.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also announced support for the Khmer Artists Association for five years with USD 100,000 per year.

The Khmer Artists Association, established in 2006, has been active for 17 years under the leadership of senior artists. Over six mandates, it has been led by Ieng Sithul, Minh Sothyvan, Sos Mach (third and fourth mandates), and Chorn Chan Leakhena.

Elected on 2 May 2024, Neak Oknha Mao Chamnan has initiated significant reforms. Within three weeks, the association set up a headquarters for its permanent members. The Board of Directors and the president have discussed the Executive Committee's composition, internal rules, and the association's plan and vision through regular meetings. They have also engaged experienced artists to exchange ideas, identify management improvements, and address reform issues.
