Kampong Speu (FN), May 26 – The Royal Ploughing ceremony, or Pithi Chrat Preah Neang Korl in Khmer, was held on Sunday (May 26), in Kampong Speu Province under the highest patronage of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.
The Ceremony was attended by Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet as well as other senior government officials.
Traditionally, Pithi Chrat Pheah Neang Korl marks the beginning of the rainy season in Cambodia. The Ceremony is held to predict the weather, epidemics and farming conditions.
This year, after three rounds of symbolic plowing, the royal oxen consumed 95% of the rice, 95% of the corn, and 85% of the soybeans. This consumption is believed to foretell better yields for these three crops this year.
