Phnom Penh (FN), May 22 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that Cambodia's history starkly bears the scars of a genocidal regime, and those who deny this truth ought to face legal consequences.
Samdech Techo spoke on Wednesday (May 22) at the closing of the conference on the “Future of Cambodia Without Genocide” at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).
"I believe it is time for legislation. Otherwise, certain politicians will persist in repeating the same actions, leading to further chaos in our society," Samdech Techo underscored.
Cambodia had experienced the genocidal regime of Pol Pot for 3 years, 8 months and 20 days after the Khmer Rouge overthrew the Lon Nol regime on 17 April 1975. The so-called killing field regime had killed nearly 3 million innocent civilians. On 7 January 1979, the remaining citizens were liberated from death. Then, the Khmer Rouge leaders were later prosecuted by the ECCC.
