Phnom Penh (FN), May 22 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen regarded the seizure of power by non-democratic means is the root cause of wars and genocide. In this sense, it is necessary to prevent and eliminate such movements, including coups to overthrow of the legitimate Royal Government and colour revolution.
Samdech Techo spoke on Wednesday (May 22) at the closing of the conference on the “Future of Cambodia Without Genocide” at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).
Taking this occasion, Samdech Techo asserted that the primary method to avert a genocidal regime is to uphold peace. With peace upheld, concerns about genocide dissipate.
Samdech Techo stated, "Do not stage coups or seize power undemocratically. These actions are the root causes of war and genocide."
Samdech Techo advised the armed forces to maintain political neutrality and prioritize protecting the Royal Government while thwarting revolutionary factions. In the interest of safeguarding the lives of the 17 million citizens, they should decisively counteract any colour revolution movement and enforce the law against a minority of offenders.
