Phnom Penh (FN), May 22 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced to wait the decision of the International Criminal Court on arrest warrants for Israel and Hamas leaders.

Samdech Techo spoke on Wednesday (May 22) at the closing of the conference on the “Future of Cambodia Without Genocide” at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

Samdech Techo stated, "Do not stage coups or seize power undemocratically. These actions are the root causes of war and genocide."

"We are waiting to see if the ICC will issue arrest warrants for the leaders of Israel and Hamas. The ICC issued one for Putin; will they do the same for the leaders of Israel and Hamas? Will it be fair?" he added.

He continued, "In the Gaza Strip and other cities in Syria, people are dying every day. What do you think? A leader of a superpower country claimed that these actions are not genocide.”

Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined, “Bombs are being dropped everywhere. If this isn't genocide, then I don't know what to call the killing of innocent people. There seems to be no legal accountability; only military might prevails. In this world, the strongest always win.”

According to AP, on 20 May 2024, Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the ICC, sought arrest warrants for leaders of Israel and Hamas, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, over actions taken during their seven-month war.

Karim Khan accused Netanyahu, Gallant, and three Hamas leaders — Yehya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif and Ismail Haniyeh — of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip and Israel.
