Phnom Penh (FN), May 21 – Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rattanak confirmed that Mondulkiri province and Bokor Mountain in Kampot will be a home to the kingdom’s wind farm.

Energy Minister Keo Rattanak underscored, "Cambodia will move to wind power in the near future, focusing on Mondulkiri province and the area of Bokor Mountain."

Heng Kunleang, Director General of the General Department of Energy, underlined that the Ministry of Mines and Energy has authorised local companies, in collaboration with international firms, to study this project.

He confirmed, "For this project, we are allowing the companies to conduct studies without specifying the investment size beforehand."

In addition, Heng Kunleang mentioned that the installation of wind power will ensure a sufficient power supply to the national grid managed by Electricite du Cambodge (EDC).

Wind power is a crucial component of the global clean energy supply, and its installation will promote renewable energy within Cambodia's electricity system.

In mid-January 2024, during an official visit to France, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Chairman and CEO of Blue Circle Olivier Duguet.

The CEO expressed a desire to invest in wind power generation in Cambodia. The company has already conducted studies and identified that Bokor Mountain and certain areas in Mondulkiri are suitable for wind power generation. They seek government support for a project that could initially produce 100 megawatts of power, with potential for future expansion.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed and supported the projects of companies interested in investing in Cambodia. He encouraged the company to engage with partners, as well as relevant ministries and institutions in Cambodia, to assess feasibility and create opportunities for the successful implementation of the wind power generation project, ensuring practical and fruitful results.
