Phnom Penh (FN), May 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that genocide education should not be limited to history lessons. It can also be integrated into various subjects, from ethics and Khmer literature to leadership studies and other soft skills development.

The premier spoke on Monday (May 20) at the conference on the “Future of Cambodia Without Genocide” at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that all government institutions, both military and civilian, must support genocide education for the next generation. We must ensure that the teaching of history is properly integrated into the curricula of public and private schools. From junior high to university, teachers are joining forces to spread genocide education in schools across the country.

"We can also find creative ways to tell these difficult stories to people of different ages and generations, including through art, digital content, or animation," the premier added.

Samdech Thipadei continued, "We need to emphasise that the obligation to promote genocide education is the responsibility of all of us, not just the Royal Government."

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that today's conference is a good example of cooperation and solidarity between various stakeholders. We must continue to tell these stories from generation to generation, even if it is painful. This is the most effective way because only those who have experienced it can best describe their experiences.
