Phnom Penh (FN), May 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that Cambodia will continue to defend itself against ill-intended actions aimed at destabilizing the country and any attempts to drag Cambodia into geopolitical competition, turning it into a new Cold War battlefield.

The premier spoke on Monday (May 20) at the conference on the "Future of Cambodia Without Genocide" at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

"We will defend ourselves against ill-intended actions aimed at destabilizing the kingdom and any attempts to drag Cambodia into the trap of geopolitical competition, turning Cambodia into a Cold War battlefield," the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet continued that confronting the past is a significant psychological burden for Cambodia due to the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime and the decades-long suffering of Cambodian citizens. However, addressing the past does not mean solely focusing on the tragedies endured in the 20th century.

In addition, Premier Hun Manet added that the Cambodian people must have hope, recognising the strength and resilience of the nation. Cambodia stands as a role model for other countries facing similar struggles.
