Phnom Penh (FN), May 20 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that to prevent the reoccurrence of genocidal regimes in Cambodia, the Royal Government, citizens, and stakeholders must jointly maintain peace and oppose war. If there is a war, there is neither human rights nor democracy.

The premier spoke on Monday (May 20) at the conference on the "Future of Cambodia Without Genocide" at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

"Importantly, we must jointly maintain the hard-earned peace at all costs," the premier underscored.

"This obligation is not only for Cambodian citizens but also for the entire international community. As we observe, wars around the world have never been beneficial for any country. War results in indiscriminate massacres of civilians due to the fighting among armed groups," Samdech Thipadei continued.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added, "No one speaks of human rights or democracy in the absence of peace."
