Phnom Penh (FN), May 19 – Cambodian Delegate Minister Jean François Tan advised local journalists not to follow foreign media outlets that frequently pressure Cambodia to support or oppose specific countries.

Delegate Minister Jean François Tan spoke at the press conference on 18 May 2024 on the outcomes of Samdech Thipadei’s official visit to the Republic of Korea.

The delegate minister was responding to a journalist's question regarding Cambodia's relations with both South Korea and North Korea.

"All local journalists should not follow some foreign media outlets that always tell Cambodia to support this country or oppose that country," delegate minister underscored.

He noted that Cambodia is a sovereign state with the right to self-determination and maintains a firm stance on regional and international issues. Cambodia upholds its own positions and respects these positions to earn the respect of others.

Regarding the relationship between the two Koreas, he acknowledged that Cambodia has developed significant relations and economic interests with South Korea in recent years. However, this does not necessitate Cambodia's opposition to North Korea.

Cambodia is a friend to South Korea but not an enemy to North Korea, he asserted.
