Moscow (FN), May 18 – Cambodian Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Minister Un Kheang paid an official visit to MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation from 11-18 May 2024.
During the visit, Un Kheang met with the management team of MGIMO led by Andrey Baykov, MGIMO Vice Rector for Research Affairs. During this meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation between NIDIR and MGIMO on short-term training for Cambodian diplomats, exchange of researchers/professors, and holding of public lectures by Russian diplomats and scholars at NIDIR. The two sides also discussed the scholarships available for Cambodian students to study at MGIMO.
The secretary of state also participated in the Awarding Ceremony of Royal Order of the Sahametrei Officer to Antatoly Torkunov, MGIMO Rector, for his decades-long contribution to the field of education in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Award was presented by Pichkhun Panha, Cambodian Ambassador to the Russian Federation.
During this occasion, Un Kheang exchanged views with Antatoly Torkunov on a wide range of issues spanning from MGIMO’s contribution to human resource development in Cambodia, action plan for the vision set in the MoU between NIDIR and MGIMO, and Torkunov’s interest in visiting NIDIR in the future.
The secretary of state also attended two additional events. First, in the MoU Exchange Ceremony between NIDIR and MGIMO. Second, he presented a keynote speech entitled “Cambodia’s Role in ASEAN” at the ASEAN (and EAS) Model Opening Ceremony organized by the ASEAN Center of MGIMO University. The lecture was attended by Ambassadors and diplomats of ASEAN Member States’ mission to the Russian Federation and MGIMO students and professors and ASEAN and EAS Model participants.
