Seoul (FN), May 17 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held bilateral talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on 16 May 2024.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol warmly welcomed Samdech Thipadei for his first official visit to South Korea.
At the same time, President Yoon Suk Yeol underlined that with the official visit of the Samdech Thipadei, the relationship and cooperation between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Cambodia will be more prosperous and stronger.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the president, government and people of Korea for their warm hospitality and praised the good and long-lasting relations between the two countries.
The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, covering key areas including politics, security, defence, economy, trade, infrastructure, development, and more.
As a result, both sides agreed to strengthen and expand their existing cooperation and elevate bilateral relations to a "Strategic Partnership" to further enhance exchanges and cooperation.
In economic and financial cooperation, both sides agreed to leverage bilateral and multilateral economic mechanisms, including the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA), the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). They also agreed to promote better relations between the people of the two countries.
In political, security, and defence cooperation, both sides expressed satisfaction with the robust cooperation in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (PKO) through the UN-ROK-Cambodia Triangular Partnership Program. They also agreed to enhance cooperation among relevant authorities to address growing transnational crimes, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, cybercrimes, and scam operations more comprehensively and effectively. The two leaders also discussed cooperation in agriculture, labour, infrastructure, digital transformation, culture, and the arts.
Before concluding, both leaders continued discussions on regional and international cooperation. Samdech Thipadei praised the Republic of Korea for its cooperation within the Mekong framework and the establishment of an ASEAN-ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
