Phnom Penh (FN), May 2 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that Toyota assembly plant presented an opportunity to transfer vehicle technology to Cambodian citizens. Hence, he asked the company to offer internship opportunities to Cambodian youths.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Apr. 5) during an inauguration of Toyota assembly plant in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.
"The inauguration of the Toyota assembly plant in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone is another significant contribution to the private sector in the industrial development and national economy," the premier underscored.
In addition, Samdech Thipadei elaborated that the Toyota assembly plant would contribute to enhancing competitiveness, promoting diversification, modernizing industry, and providing more opportunities for professional employment to Cambodian citizens.
Premier Hun Manet mentioned that apart from job creation, the establishment of such high-tech factories offers the potential for technology transfer from Japan to Cambodia, encompassing both infrastructure, machinery, and human resources.
The premier informed that technology transfer would occur through two channels: (1) infrastructure and machinery, and (2) human resources.
Taking this occasion Samdech Thipadei encouraged the company to expand its vision to include the establishment of a training centre. He also urged the company to collaborate with the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to offer internship opportunities to Cambodian youths, aligning with the government's vocational training program.
