Phnom Penh (FN), May 1 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the opposition group’s intention to obstruct the Funan Techo canal project will fail as it is against the national interest.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (May 1) during his meeting with workers at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet firmly stated, "To those who initiated the movement against the Funan Techo canal project, your plan will fail as it stands against the collective national aspirations of the Cambodian people and the historical welfare of Cambodia. Your efforts shall not prevail.”
"Millions of people across the country, young and old, understand the value [of the Funan Techo Canal Project] and express their support,” the premier underlined.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and the Royal Government of the seventh mandate, are fully dedicated to executing this project. He further affirmed that the Funan Techo canal project will be realized under a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) arrangement, with the contract eventually reverting to state ownership upon completion.
