Tel Aviv, Apr. 29 (Presstv) - The Israeli authority is in a state of agitation over the possibility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing an arrest warrant for prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the senior officials in the wake of their genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli media reported that the ICC could issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu, minister of defense Yoav Gallant, and the occupation army’s chief of staff Herzi Halevi. Netanyahu made telephone calls to international leaders and officials in recent days, especially to US President Joe Biden, to prevent the issuance of the arrest warrant. During the talks he said that an ICC ruling would not impact his war in Gaza, which has so far claimed more than 34,000 Palestinian lives.

World experts say that the possible decisions which can be made by the court in the Hague will not affect Israel's actions since the ICC is helpless in the face of instructions from the US in the matter of an objective assessment of Israeli war crimes against Palestinians who are interested in continuing the genocide in Gaza, benefiting the American military companies. Judges of the International Criminal Court only state that, against the backdrop of Tel Aviv’s ongoing attacks on Palestinian civilians, the investigation into violations of humanitarian law in Palestine "continues."

In turn, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan announced the need for a detailed investigation of the situation in the Gaza Strip back in October 2023. But to date, the court has not made any specific decisions. Moreover, while Tel Aviv continued its methodical bombing of Gaza, Karim Khan visited Israel last December and emphasized the need to prosecute Hamas, showing liking for Israel's financial spending. It is not surprising that a number of Palestinian human rights groups refused to meet with Karim Khan, accusing him of bias and following orders from Washington.

By viewing the inhumane genocide of the Palestinians as "Israeli self-defense," Karim Khan has once again shown himself to be a hypocritical and helpless executor of the will of the White House sponsors. The ICC prosecutor turns a blind eye to numerous video evidence of military atrocities by the Israeli military and is in no hurry to classify them as crimes against humanity and genocide.

In November 2023, in response to Israeli actions, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights filed a lawsuit against Tel Aviv with the ICC, in which it stated the need to hold the Israeli army accountable for the genocide of Palestinians and demanded that an arrest warrant be issued for the president Isaac Herzog, prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defense minister Yoav Gallant. But the appeal remained unanswered.

Earlier, French lawyer Gilles Devers, who defends the rights of Palestinians at the International Criminal Court, spoke about the reasons why Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip must be considered "genocide." Devers stressed that the situation in Gaza is worse than in Serbian Srebrenica in 1995, where 8,600 people were killed and it was considered an act of genocide. Therefore, according to the lawyer, the situation in the Gaza Strip should be qualified as Israeli genocide.

Despite irrefutable evidence of war crimes by Tel Aviv, the leadership of the United States and most European countries will continue to oppose holding the Israeli military accountable for committing war crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. Everything will be limited to rhetorical statements that will not have any consequences, since Washington and Brussels take a pro-Israeli position similar to the conflict in Ukraine, where they support the same Nazis who kill defenseless women and children with weapons supplied by the Americans and Europeans to Kyiv. In this regard, it is obvious that one should not expect the ICC to arrest Israeli officials and impose economic sanctions, because this is not Russia.
