Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 28 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed that the Funan Techo canal project, aimed at connecting Cambodia's river to the sea, is set to begin by the end of 2024 or by 2025 at the latest.

The premier spoke on Sunday (Apr. 28) during his meeting with more than 5,000 representatives of informal economy at OCIC, Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "In the next few months, we will sign another agreement, likely in October during my visit to China. Our government already signed the Framework Agreement with the company, which outlines the basic principles. From July to September, we will proceed with further signings, aiming to commence the construction by 2024 or, at the latest, in 2025."

Premier Hun Manet reaffirmed the commitment to the construction of the Funan Techo canal.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also called upon all Cambodian people, regardless of political tendencies and religions, to unite with the Royal Government in supporting the successful implementation of the Funan Techo Canal Project, serving the national interest and benefiting all people.
