Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 28 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called upon all Cambodians, regardless of political tendencies and religions, to unite with the Royal Government of Cambodia in supporting the successful implementation of the Funan Techo Canal Project, serving the national interest and benefiting all Cambodians.
The premier spoke on Sunday (Apr. 28) during his meeting with more than 5,000 representatives of
“Cambodia has achieved significant milestones, each of which is a historic accomplishment. In the previous mandate and in this one, we inaugurated an international airport in Siem Reap. This marks a significant moment in history. Additionally, in 2025, Cambodia will inaugurate a new airport in Phnom Penh, yet marking another historic milestone,” the premier further underscored.
Prime Minister Hun Manet added, “I have mentioned before that we could build 10-20 highways, and we have the capacity to construct airports in five to six locations. However, the Funan-Techo canal in Cambodia is a singular project, stretching from the sea to the river, and this project alone is significant and sufficient. The Funan-Techo canal aims to facilitate trade and boost commerce, not for military purposes.”
Samdech Thipadei continued, “By digging the canal, we aim to benefit all Cambodian people and international tourists. When people visit Cambodia through the Funan-Techo canal, they will have the opportunity to establish businesses along its banks, including factories, tourist attractions, and waterfront restaurants.”
“I would like to express my gratitude to our people for their strong sense of nationalism. The spirit of nationalism is powerful. When our direction is correct, we can achieve great things. However, if we stray from the right path, we face risks. Some individuals exploit nationalism to sow discord and division, but we must harness this spirit to collectively build common achievements. The support we received from people across the country for the Funan Techo canal project demonstrates true national unity in serving Cambodia’s interests. I urge everyone to continue participating in this endeavour,” Samdech Thipadei further continued.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Funan Techo canal, along with the completed expressway, represents a historic achievement for Cambodia, with more such projects planned for the future. In the past, our ancestors constructed Angkor Wat. Now, the next generation of Cambodians will continue to build significant historical achievements in the land of Angkor, with a particular focus on the Funan Techo canal. Collaboration is key in this endeavour.
