Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 28 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his deepest gratitude to Cambodian citizens both inside and outside the country for their landslide support for the Funan Techo Canal Project, and called for continued support.
The premier spoke on Sunday (Apr. 28) during his meeting with more than 5,000 representatives of informal economy at OCIC, Phnom Penh.
"I would like to once again thank our citizens inside and outside the country for their landslide support for this national project. The Funan-Techo Canal Project is for the benefit of the nation and the people," the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei mentioned that only the former opposition leader Sam Rainsy opposed the Funan Techo Canal Project.
“The Funan Techo Canal Project benefits everyone," the premier continued.
Samdech Thipadei mentioned that the budget for the construction of the Funan Techo Canal Project has been reserved. He added that the Royal Government has no plans to raise funds for the construction of project.
The Funan Techo Canal Project aims to connect waterways between rivers to the sea of Cambodia, passing through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep provinces. It is about 180 kilometres long. The project is expected to cost about USD 1.7 billion and has been studied in detail.
