Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet shared some recommendations during his gala dinner with artists on Thursday (Apr. 25) to strengthen unity and resilience among them.

The recommendations are as follows:

1. Samdech Thipadei urged all artists to strengthen unity and resilience, and to bolster common goals and successes. In this regard, Samdech Thipadei encouraged all artists to unite by joining or forming arts associations, fostering a spirit of collaboration, unity and solidarity to achieve shared objectives and collective success.

2. In the arts and culture sector, artists serve as role models and influential figures across various fields, particularly in the media, both through their live or recorded performances. The preservation of national art, culture, and the personal values of artists hinges on individual decisions. Wise decisions garner public support, while misguided choices face social pressure. Therefore, before engaging in any activity, artists should adhere to principles, ethics, virtues, and truth, both in their writing and in their use of words, gestures, actions, attitudes, and attire. By maintaining dignity and contributing to the promotion of morality in society, artists can help strengthen national identity and prestige.

3. Samdech Thipadei believed that the formulation of strategies to garner public interest should entail careful consideration of cultural, traditional, and social moral impacts in advance, without resorting to a subjective stance or pursuing instant recognition, which could potentially harm both personal and national values. He asserted that all artists bear a significant responsibility in identifying and rectifying both intentional and unintentional mistakes that may arise.

4. In the era of the digital revolution, information spreads rapidly, making it challenging to prevent misinformation. To bolster our society, I urge all artists to exercise utmost caution, refraining from fabrications and performances that propagate falsehoods or racism.

5. Regarding the creation of new works and compositions, Samdech Thipadei suggested paying close attention to the inclusion of educational and socially uplifting messages by adhering to the principles of truth and virtue, and not plagiarism, aiming to preserve works for future generations.

6. Senior artists not only lead but also serve as examples for the next generation. Supporting, mentoring, and transferring knowledge to the youth is imperative for preserving ancestral heritage and fostering the continuous growth of arts and culture. Adherence to artistic ethics serves as a vehicle for the mechanism of sustainability and success.

In this context, Samdech Thipadei urged the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to continue promoting openness, strengthening collaboration, and providing support to all arts associations and professionals. The Ministry should continue its role as a guardian, offering guidance, technical support, and enhancing the appreciation mechanism and encouragement in the form of certificates of appreciation, letters of recognition, letters of support, or even medal awards.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet also requested the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to rectify errors, provide guidance on appropriate behaviours to uphold dignity, and prevent any detrimental effects on traditional arts.
