Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet regarded the "When Shaolin Meets Bokator at Angkor” event as a means to showcase Cambodia's culture to the world and increase global awareness of the kingdom.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Apr. 25) during his gala dinner with artists at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.
"Yesterday, we hosted “When Shaolin Meets Bokator at Angkor Event”. Our target audiences are not only those in Cambodia, but also China and worldwide. It highlights the transition of martial arts and culture in Cambodia," the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei continued that Cambodia's integration and globalization have offered many opportunities. However, it also poses adverse effects for Cambodia and other countries in terms of cultural preservation. Globalization, particularly in the arts, could confuse young generations between foreign cultures and their own.
"Generally speaking, we neither banning foreign dramas flow to our country, nor stop celebrating 14 February or Christmas. We welcome all events. However, we want our citizens to have a clear understanding between Cambodian culture and foreign culture," the premier added.
On 24 April 2024, Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the People's Administration of Henan Province and Siem Reap Provincial Administration, hosted "When Shaolin Meets Bokator at Angkor Event" held at the Northern Part of Bayon Temple.
The event aimed to jointly promote tourism between Siem Reap province and Henan province, featuring a joint performance between Shaolin and Bokator. The event was attended by more than 500 people, including Cambodian-Chinese high-ranking officials, tourism associations, journalists, relevant institutions, Shaolin martial arts performers and Bokator martial arts performers.
