Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 24 – President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) Samdech Techo Hun Sen and General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed their commitment to fortifying friendship and fostering solidarity for the benefits of both nations and peoples.
The commitment was made during the 14th meeting between the CPP and the LPRP on Wednesday (Apr. 24) at the CPP headquarters.
“The meeting was conducted in a warm, friendly, understanding, and trusting manner. It aimed at cultivating solidarity, traditional friendship, and cooperation across sectors between the two parties and two countries to further deepen their bonds and achieve more fruitful outcomes,” according to the outcomes seen by Fresh News on Wednesday (Apr. 24).
Both sides expressed their high appreciation and extended congratulations for the ongoing advancement of solidarity, traditional friendship, and cooperation between the two countries, elevating the relations to a "long-term and comprehensive strategic partnership".
Furthermore, the two parties exchanged views regarding the prevailing regional and international dynamics, emerging circumstances within each respective party and country, bilateral relations, and cooperation within regional and international frameworks. They also discussed the future direction of collaboration.
Taking this occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the general secretary of the LPRP and all Lao leaders for congratulating CPP and him on the victory in the 5th mandate Senate Election and the recent appointment as president of the Senate.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also expressed his full support for Laos as the Rotating Chair of ASEAN and Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in 2024, and invited Laos to lead a high-level delegation to the following events hosted by Cambodia in 2024 such as 12th Summit of the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam on Development Triangle Area, 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), 3rd Asian Cultural Council (ACC) and the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine- Free World in 2024.
Samdech Techo and the Lao president commended the positive outcomes resulting from the implementation of the agreements reached at the 13th Summit between the two parties in Vientiane on 14 February 2023. These achievements have significantly bolstered the longstanding solidarity, friendship, cooperation, and mutual support between the two parties, parliaments, governments, and public organizations of both countries. Additionally, collaboration has been enhanced among local authorities along the borders of the two countries, aimed at safeguarding and advancing the development of each nation. Such efforts were geared towards enhancing the roles of both countries within the region and on the global stage.
The two sides reached an agreement to further enhance friendly relations, solidarity, and cooperation between their respective parties and countries, as well as with the CLV countries, for the collective national benefit of all three nations and the peoples. This collaborative effort aimed to contribute to the promotion of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation, and development within the Mekong subregion, as well as in the broader regional and global context.
On the occasion, the two sides also agreed to hold the 15th meeting in Laos in 2025.
In the meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on 23 April 2024, Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith reaffirmed Laos’ commitment to fostering robust relations with Cambodia amidst regional and global challenges.
