Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 23 - Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith met Cambodian President of the National Assembly (NA) Khuon Sudary on Tuesday (Apr. 23) at the National Assembly.
Cambodian NA President warmly welcomed the Laotian president and the delegation for their visit to Cambodia. The visit marks a meaningful and significant driving force contributing to the strengthening and expansion of traditional ties, good neighbourliness, and close and lasting solidarity, especially further promoting the elevation of relations to a "long-term and comprehensive strategic partnership" that will bring mutual benefits to both nations and peoples.
In her capacity as the President of the National Assembly, Khuon Sudary reiterated and expressed her deep gratitude to Laotian leaders at all levels and the people of Laos for the warm welcome extended to the high-level delegation of the National Assembly of Cambodia during her visit to Lao PDR and participation in Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam (CLV) Parliamentary Summit in Laos in December 2023. At the same time, she congratulated and highly appreciated the brilliant success of the Lao National Assembly in hosting the Summit. She also wished Laos continued success in hosting the ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) at the end of 2024.
Taking this occasion, NA President Khuon Sudary supported and congratulated the official visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to Laos in March, during which both sides signed seven agreements and memoranda of understanding on key sectors such as energy, trade, education, tourism, security, national defence, and combating drug trafficking and cross-border trafficking.
For his part, President Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his great pleasure in visiting Cambodia and meeting with the President of the National Assembly, who is the first woman to hold this top post.
The Laotian president congratulated Cambodia on its progress in every sector. He also recalled the enduring traditional friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Laos. Cambodia and Laos are friends, brothers, and sisters who have stood shoulder to shoulder in the struggle for independence for their respective countries. Cambodia-Laos relations are a valuable and invaluable asset for the two peoples.
Lastly, President Thongloun Sisoulith requested the President of the National Assembly to deepen and actively cooperate with the National Assembly of Laos to bring benefits to the two peoples and nations. He also asked the National Assembly of Cambodia to share experiences with the National Assembly of Laos at all levels and in every sector.
