Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 19 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet shared some concepts to the National Defence University to enhance research and expand the army capacity, in particular military officers in response to emerging warfare technologies worldwide, speaking on Friday (Apr. 19) during an inauguration of buildings and closing 2023 training course of the National Defence University.

"Digital information is both the present and the future. We no longer need to deploy armed infantry or send detective teams into dense forests. It's challenging. Drones enable us to survey areas five to ten kilometers away,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei elaborated on how current battle shells can be analysed and accurately fired using remote computers. Additionally, drones equipped with advanced GPS systems are now more sophisticated than ever before.

Samdech Thipadei added, "Although we must maintain basic knowledge and skills, such as mathematics, we cannot ignore the use of technology. Therefore, the Faculties of Technology and Information Technology play vital roles in integrating technology to support research”.

In the occasion, Premier Hun Manet continued that the National Defence University is not a teaching institution, but it requires to strengthen its role in research. Samdech Thipadei urged the Minister of National Defence to review the role of the National Defence University to become a military research institution and expand the new context.

Samdech Thipadei raised the example of the Ukraine war that involve the use of new war tactics.

The premier underlined the need for the National Defence University to enhance the qualifications of Cambodian military personnel at all levels and expand its research capabilities. Samdech Thipadei also highlighted the importance of acquiring additional documentation for further study.
