Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 9 – A social media user, named “Ta Tum”, analysed that the propaganda attack on the Funan Techo Canal, which falsely mentions that the Funan Techo Canal would further facilitate Chinese troops near Viet Nam border, came from a conspiracy between Viet Nam and the United States to oppose China.

Ta Tum commented on the post of Cambodian President of the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, on Tuesday (Apr. 9).

"According to my research, this case is the conspiracy between Vietnam and the United States to oppose China. Vietnam used to oppose Laos' hydropower construction invested by China along the Mekong River even though the site is 2,000 km away from Vietnam.

This time Vietnam opposes or worries about Funan Techo Canal pointing out to environmental issues and the presence of Chinese troops. Those expressing concerns are Vietnam and the United States, echoed by foreign media outlets with the real aim to oppose China.

Vietnam fears the change of water current, but Vietnam herself
forgets that she is the prime destroyer of Mekong River.

Why do I say Vietnam destroys water current the most? For Vietnam's agricultural production, the Vietnamese side dug canals and built many dams. During flood season in late July and August, in order to protect rice and crops, Vietnam often closed dams to prevent water from flooding rice and crops. Closing the dams blocked the water from flowing into the sea.

Water that can not flow down to the sea caused flood damage to Cambodia in provinces like Kandal, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, and Kampot which are adjacent to Vietnam border; some years, flood water even threatened Phnom Penh as strong water could not flow into the sea due to the dams in Vietnamese territory.

Compared to Funan Techo Canal which does not alter water current, Vietnam should not oppose the digging of the canal. If Vietnam opposes, Vietnam shall demolish all her dams that prevent water flowing to the sea, causing damages to Cambodia.

On behalf of Cambodian citizen, I should speak to Vietnamese leaders to think of the interests of Cambodia and Laos and please end "shaking hands and standing on toes politics" under collaborative strategy with the United States to oppose China by using Cambodia as a battlefield."
