Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet supported investment expansion projects proposed by the Sunwah Group.
The premier received a courtesy call by Chairman of the Sunwah Group Jonathan K.S. Choi on Monday morning (Apr. 8) at the Peace Palace.
Chairman of the Sunwah Group thanked Samdech Thipadei for allowing him and his delegation to pay a courtesy call. He also briefed Samdech on the Sunwah Group’s journey in Cambodia since 1994, in particular the establishment of a seafood processing plant for export to foreign markets.
Taking this occasion, Chairman Jonathan informed the premier that more than 70 investment companies in various sectors such as technology, finance, digital, real estate, energy and tourism, participated in this courtesy call.
In addition, the chairman also expressed his intention to expand investment in multiple sectors, such as (1) the development of green special economic zones (Green SEZ); (2) the construction of commercial buildings and condominiums; (3) tourism; (4) the installation of electric vehicle charging station (EV Charging Station); and (5) the construction of 5G telecommunication network.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed the chairman of the Sunwah Group and his delegation. The premier also thanked for the company’s interest and plans to expand its investment in the kingdom.
Regarding the investment expansion projects, Premier Hun Manet underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia in this mandate has a clear vision to promote economic growth to improve the citizens’ living standards. As a result, the Cambodian economy grew, maintained resilience, and achieved economic growth of 5.6 per cent in 2023, and is projected to reach 6.6 per cent by 2024.
In order to ensure a competitive business climate and investor’s confidence, the Royal Government continued to maintain peace, political stability and social order.
At the same time, the Royal Government has been working to promote the construction of connecting infrastructure such as expressways and deep-sea ports. Numerous new initiatives have been launched to support investment in Cambodia, such as new models of special economic zones by industry and the requirements of each country, as well as the Plus-One Strategy.
Regarding the investment project for the development of the Green SEZ and the investment in the EV vehicle, Samdech Thipadei advised the company to discuss further with the relevant ministries and institutions such as the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
The premier continued that the Royal Government of Cambodia has paid attention to using clean energy. Currently, Cambodia consumes more than 60 per cent of clean energy and aims to reach 70 per cent by 2030.
Regarding tourism, the premier added that the Royal Government has paid attention and given priority to promoting tourism through the introduction of support policies and the expansion of direct flights with countries in the region and the world. In this sense, the Cambodia Tourism Marketing and Promotion Board was also established to enhance tourism services efficiently.
Lastly, regarding the intention to construct a 5G telecommunication network, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the company to discuss it with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
