Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 3 – Cambodian President of the Senate Hun Sen affirmed his determination to lead this institution in fulfilling its roles and duties, and to join hands with the National Assembly and the Royal Government to deliver their respective mandates with solid responsibility to serve the Cambodian nation and its people.
Samdech Techo addressed the first session of the Senate of the 5th legislature on Wednesday morning (Apr. 3).
“It is with determination that I accept this highest responsibility, aware of the crucial importance of our institution in the functioning of our young democracy and in the preservation of the fundamental values of our society,” Samdech Techo underscored.
Samdech Hun Sen expressed his deepest gratitude to all senators of the 5th Legislature for the honour and trust they have placed in him by electing him as President of the Senate of the 5th Legislature.
In addition, Samdech Techo also expressed his deep and heartfelt gratitude to the Members of the National Assembly and to the Commune and Sangkat Councillors in the constituencies of the eight regions whose votes, in a vast majority, on 25 February, reflect again the trust and confidence in the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) as the guarantor of peace, stability, and the path of development.
Taking this occasion, the Senate president wished to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Samdech Say Chhum, President of the Senate of the previous legislatures, as well as to Sim Ka and Tep Ngorn, its former First and Second Vice Presidents, whose dedication and leadership have helped strengthen the institution over the years.
Samdech Techo added that their commitment to the respect for the Constitution, the protection of the Monarchy as well as to the development of the country and the well-being of the people deserves the deepest appreciation and serves as an inspiration to continue their noble legacy.
