Pursat (FN), Mar. 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet confirmed that the Royal Government is preparing to nominate seven additional Cambodian cultural properties for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

The premier spoke on Sunday morning (Mar. 31) at the inauguration of Preah Botum Stupa at Mony Ratanaream Pagoda in Pursat province.

"We are preparing to nominate seven more sites, including Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Banteay Chhmar Temple, Phnom Da, Phnom Preah Reach Troap, Preah Khan Kampong Svay, Beng Mealea, and Phnom Kulen," Samdech Thipadei underscored.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government is also planning to nominate more elements of Cambodian culture, including Cambodian Scarf (Krama), Khmer traditional wedding, and Sangkran, for global recognition.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that while the concern for protection is valid, he would like to urge people around the world that Cambodia does not permit any country to appropriate Cambodian culture without proper safeguards in place.

So far, ten Cambodian cultural properties have been inscribed on the World Heritage List, of which four are tangible and six are intangible. The tangible heritage includes Angkor Archaeological Park, Preah Vihear Temple, the Temple Zone of Sambor Prei Kuk and Koh Ker archaeological site. Intangible heritage, include the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, Sbek Thom, Lkhon Khol Way Svay Andet, the tug-of-war-game, Chapei Dang Veng and Kun Lbokator.
