Pursat (FN), Mar. 31 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that peace is an indispensable element for nation-building. Without peace, our efforts to construct a nation would be futile, and our citizens would not be able to live in tranquility. Peace is truly invaluable and must be cherished by everyone.

The premier spoke on Sunday morning (Mar. 31) at the inauguration of Preah Botum Stupa at Mony Ratanaream Pagoda in Pursat province.

"The term "Thanks Peace" may be repetitive. However, it is essential. Without peace, the country would be engulfed in turmoil, and the safety of our citizens would be jeopardized.  Imagine citizens are worrying about encountering conflict every time they leave homes," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei continued that peace is priceless for everyone. If the country is in an ongoing war, the pagodas can also become battlegrounds and makeshift hospitals for the injured. However, in the peace period, these same areas can be transformed into places of worship and spiritual rejuvenation.

Premier Hun Manet also reminded that some pagodas were constructed after 1998, in locations that were once battlegrounds during wartime. This serves as a poignant reminder of the preciousness of peace, which contributes to remarkable achievements and national development.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also mentioned the importance of religious freedom in fostering peace and unity. The premier also recalled the era from 1975 to 1979 when religious freedoms were suppressed, resulting in the cessation of pagoda construction and restrictions on religious practices. Since 1979, efforts have been made to restore and uphold religious freedom across all faiths, enabling individuals to practice their religion freely.
