Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government of Cambodia has appointed many leaders from the Khmer Muslim community to key positions in both national and sub-national institutions to support and facilitate the community.

The premier spoke on Thursday evening (Mar. 21) at the 2024 Ramadan Iftar dinner in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that Cambodia takes great pride in its diverse religious practices and the unity among its people. This unity is not only a source of pride for Cambodia but also for countries within the region and around the world.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The Royal Government of Cambodia has also appointed numerous leaders from the Khmer Muslim community to national and sub-national institutions to support and empower the community. Presently, there are five Cambodian-Muslim leaders, including one woman, who have been elected to the Senate for the fifth term. In the past, six individuals, including one woman, were elected to the seventh-mandate National Assembly."

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Royal Government established the Supreme Islamic Council of Cambodia, serving as the Highest Council for Islamic Religious Affairs in the country. Neak Oknha Sos Komry has served as its governor since 2000, overseeing a hierarchical management structure from the top down, as Imams Capital, Province, City and District.
