Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged continued attention to vocational and technology training for Cambodian Muslims to enhance their employment prospects.

The premier spoke on Thursday evening (Mar. 21) at the 2024 Ramadan Iftar dinner in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, “I called for continued attention to the training of various professions and technologies so that Cambodian Muslims can secure decent jobs and enhance their family life and contribute positively to society.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the education sector in the Khmer-Muslim community is experiencing growth, with the Royal Government providing a framework to support Khmer-Muslim teachers within the community, thus increasing the number of Cambodian students and intellectuals.

At the same time, the premier affirmed the government’s commitment to religious freedom, allowing Muslim students to wear traditional Islamic clothing and women to wear headscarves in educational institutions, while men can use photo IDs for administrative documents like passports and ID cards.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted the availability of prayer halls at various public locations, including airports, government hospitals, factories, hotels, supermarkets, and notably, the Peace Palace.
