Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 21 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined several recommendations to enhance support and care for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Cambodia, speaking on Thursday (Mar. 21) during the inaugurations of Techo Sen National Centre of Disabled Persons and the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underscored that the new government will persist in implementing policies and initiatives to continuously support the PWDs, ensuring they are not overlooked. Strengthening the disability sector is presently a collaborative endeavour aimed at bolstering the hope, courage, and promotion of their rights, freedoms, and dignity, while fostering positive attitudes and virtues towards them.

To maximize the contribution of PWDs to the community and socio-economic development, Samdech Thipadei provided recommendations include as follow:

1. Samdech Thipadel advises the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation, along with relevant ministries and institutions, to participate and formulate comprehensive legal documents to ensure that the Techo Sen National Centre of Disabled Persons is the property for our disabled people that can be used continuously, now and in the future. Samdech Thipadei approved the request from Yi Veasna to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation, the Office of the Council of Ministers, and the relevant ministries for updates, amendments, and additions to the necessary legal documents.

2. All development activities, including social, economic, political, and cultural activities, must encourage and promote the maximum participation of people with disabilities at the community level, widely, in order to achieve inclusive development in both aspects and roles of development.

3. Samdech Thipadei urges further cooperation in organizing specialized skills training and employing suitable methods for educating the PWDs to improve their ability and access to high-paying jobs, thereby enhancing the daily lives of the PWDs and their families. This will also enable people with disabilities to participate more fully and equitably in the labor market in both the private and public sectors.

4. For job effectiveness, the Techo Sen National Centre of Disabled Persons and the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC) need a budget to support the development of sports for people with disabilities, particularly in preparation for hosting the 6th Asian Youth Para Games. In this regard, Samdech Thipadei instructed the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and relevant institutions to discuss with the Ministry of Economy and Finance in support of this work. Simultaneously, Samdech Thipadei agrees with the proposal of the Techo Sen National Centre of Disabled Persons and the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia to establish the 'Techo Sen Disabled Sports Fund'.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei has accepted the role of Honorary President for both the Techo Sen National Centre of Disabled Persons and the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia.
