Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 19 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government has implemented key measures in the health sector to improve the quality of health services and strengthen the capacity to provide primary health services at the local level.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Mar. 19) during the closing 2023 annual meeting of the Ministry of Health at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra.
In this regard, the premier also shared three points as follow:
1. Capacity building to provide services at health centres and referral hospitals.
2. To develop the capacity of health institutions at all levels to manage human resources, finances, employment, regulations, and responses to threats to public health and health emergencies, as well as to improve the effectiveness of institutional functions and processes.
3. To build a strong partnership between the public and private health sectors to ensure that people have access to high-quality, safe, and effective healthcare services.
On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet encouraged health officials, doctors, nurses, and all medical care staff to prioritise life-saving above all else. He underscored that the main functions of health officers, doctors, nurses, and all medical care staff are saving the lives of people by providing medical treatment with high professional ethics and the utmost respect for patients and recipients of healthcare.
SamdeI Thipadei also underlined that strengthening the health sector is based on two approaches, bottom-up and top-down. Strengthening from the bottom up involves strengthening basic services, primary services, referral services, and improving the quality of medicines and medical equipment. Strengthening from top to bottom involves the modernisation of medical equipment and the diversification of the capacity of doctors at the national, regional, and provincial levels.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei added that training human resources in health is a necessary task.
