Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 18 – Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim expressed hope that the launch of Phnom Penh-Kuala Lumpur direct flight signified the importance of Malaysia as a tourist and lucrative business destination to Cambodia.
The Malaysian ambassador spoke at the joint press conference on the launch of the first direct flight of Cambodia Airways from Phnom Penh to Kuala Lumpur on 15 March 2024 at the embassy.
"The launch of this flight is a milestone for Malaysia-Cambodia bilateral relations, as this signifies the importance of Malaysia as a tourist and lucrative business destination to Cambodia," the Malaysian ambassador underscored.
Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim continued that Malaysia is currently one of Cambodia's top trading partners and a major contributor to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Cambodia. In this sense, this flight is a good tool to link and enhance diplomatic relations between the two nations, which have established since 1967.
The ambassador added that people-to-people ties could be further strengthened, especially in strategic cooperation between the two countries, including security and defence, tourism, technology, digital advancement, finance, halal food and energy security.
"It will also open up the potential for many fields where the two countries will boost economic and investment ties. During the recent visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to Malaysia on 27 February 2024, the two premiers also touched on various topics, including establishing the Cambodia-Malaysia Special Economic Zone (SEZ)," the ambassador added.
Cambodia Airways will launch its first flight from Phnom Penh to Kuala Lumpur on 11 April 2024.
Representative from Cambodia Airways Bai Guo Wei mentioned that the flight will operate three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. A one-way PNH-KUL trip will receive a promotion price of USD 105 and a round trip for only USD 164.
He also pointed out that the company is also considering adding direct flights to other airports in Malaysia, such as Penang.
