Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that within six months of the new mandate of the Royal Government, Cambodia welcomed 3,313 new enterprises, of which 164 were garment sector, generating employment opportunities for 77,209 citizens.

The premier spoke on Friday (Mar. 15) at the weekly plenary session at the Peace Palace.

"According to the report from Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the Ministry of Labor, within these six months, starting from 31 August 2023 to 29 February 2024, the total number of newly opened enterprises were 3,313. Among these, the garment sector accounted for 164 enterprises, generating 52,597 jobs. The non-garment sector accounted for 3,149 enterprises, including small and large enterprises, generating more than 24,612 jobs. To sum up, these new enterprises have contributed to the creation of 77,209 job opportunities," the premier underscored.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei continued that Cambodia adopts the free market system, wherein operating companies must compete. As a result, while some investment ventures succeed, others may face challenges. Therefore, the Royal Government cannot guarantee the seamless operation of companies.
