Melbourne (FN), Mar. 6 – Neak Oknha Kith Meng, President of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and Chair of ASEAN Business Advisory Council Cambodia, encouraged and invited Australian companies to explore the diverse opportunities that Cambodian market presents and asked Australia to contribute their expertise to shared success as Cambodia offers as a gateway for Australian businesses seeking to diversify their global footprint through Cambodia’s preferential trade agreement.

Neak Oknha emphasized that under the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Royal Government of Cambodia continues to implement pro-business policies and commits to multilateral principles and international agreements to creating an investment climate that is transparent and favourable to investors.

Neak Oknha spoke on 5 March 2024, while accompanying the official visit of Samdech Thipadei to attend ASEAN- Australia Special Summit to commemorate 50 years of dialogue relations in Melbourne, Australia.

Cambodia-Australia Business Forum which is co-organized by the CCC, Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Representative Office of CCC in Melbourne, Australia. The forum was presided over by Samdech Thipadei and with the participation of the assistant minister for Trade, minister for Industry & Trade, New South Wales, CEO of Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, companies from both countries and representative from relevant organizations totalled around 350 participants.

During this business forum, Neak Oknha Kith Meng elaborated that Cambodia and Australia share a foundation of mutual respect, diplomatic engagement, and a commitment to fostering prosperity within the region, where Australia contributed to Cambodia's economic development path and anticipated further strengthening the bilateral economic relationship.

Neak Oknha recalled history that many Cambodians including he, himself, were refugees to Australia in the 1980s. Today, over 40 years later, there are no Cambodians that come to Australia as a refugee, now only as tourists or business people. Cambodia is in full peace.

During the business forum, Cambodia Chamber of Commerce had also exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The ceremony was presided over by Samdech Thipadei.

The purpose of this MOU is to promote the trade and investment relation and economic ties between Cambodia and Australia.

The Australia – Cambodia Business Forum concluded successfully and there were dialogues on the investment climate, trade opportunities in Cambodia and Australia as well as experience sharing with Australian companies that are present and currently operating in Cambodia.
