Melbourne (FN), Mar. 3 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet asked investors to understand the decision to ban expansion of gambling venues in Cambodia, speaking on Sunday (Mar. 3) during his meeting with Cambodians in Australia and New Zealand.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "I have ordered the suspension of license issuance and I am reviewing the possibility of revoking licenses as it [the gambling] is not beneficial. Our objective is to establish factories, create job opportunities, and boost income for the people."
He continued, "We have no intention to promote the establishment of gambling sites, even if they are legally permissible. Anything operating illegally, from small-scale enterprises to local communities, is counterproductive and will be eliminated."
In connection with this gambling issue, Samdech Thipadei underlined, "I urge all investors to understand that gambling is not highly profitable and it creates difficulties.”
Samdech Thipadei underscored that Cambodia has made remarkable strides over the past two decades, transitioning from an impoverished nation to a lower-middle-income country without resorting to revenue from illegal gambling.
